Mid - Western Blues

it snowed
for two days
stopped
for a day
snowed for two more
then
it got cold

in a little white house
we smoked
drank
laughed
fought
waited it out
until the whiskey
was gone

i said
i’ll go get some more
and coffee
you said and cigarettes
and the mail
yeah i know

i walked
down a path
i discovered
years ago
into the woods
a shortcut to town
it took a long time
but i didn’t quit
until i saw a sign
